Sidney Ramin
Sidney Ramin was born (Jan 22nd 1919) and grew up in Boston and studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and at Boston University before moving to New York, studying at Columbia University and reestablishing his assciation with Leonard Bernstein with whom he had grown up in Boston. In New York he began to do arranging chores for Broadway shows and, in the years of his reign in legitimate musicals, contributed to the orchestrations for over half a dozen prime hits including 'A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum' and 'Gypsy' and Bernstein's fabulous 'West Side Story'. He moved to Hollywood after he won an Academy Award in 1962 for the best scoring of a musical picture 'West Side Story'.
