Vincent Ruiz

Vincent Ruiz (1990) is a Swiss musician, composer and improviser living in Copenhagen.

After studying upright bass with Larry Grenadier, Bänz Oester and Patrice Moret, and gaining his Bachelor at the Musik Akademie Basel, he was awarded the Leenaards Cultural Grant in 2015 as an encouragement to further his composition work.

Ruiz is more known for being the double bass player of minimalist/post-jazz group Plaistow but has also performed or collaborated with a vast array of musicians and improvisers such as Wadada Leo Smith, Nicole Hogstrand, Nicolas Masson, Jacob Sacks, Colin Vallon, Basel Rajoub, Emanuele Maniscalco, Cyril Bondi and Greta Eacott.

At the moment, he is completing a Master degree at the dansk Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium with Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard and August Rosenbaum.

He currently is working on solo pieces for double bass as well as writing music that focuses on repetition and the interaction between timbre and resonances.
