Early jazz and swing guitarist and banjoist, born 1902 in Baltimore.
Mitchell moved to New York in 1921 and recorded with Johnny Dunn's band. He joined Sam Wooding and traveled with him to Europe in 1925 and again in 1931; he remained in Europe, working as a guitarist in Willie Lewis' band 1931-1941. He returned to the USA in 1944 to be with Jimmie Lunceford's orchestra until 1946, when he left music.
