George Peckham

Real Name:
George Peckham
Profile:
British lacquer-cutting and mastering engineer, better known as "Porky" (as in "a Porky prime cut") with an illustrious career, including work on The Beatles, Genesis, and Led Zeppelin catalogues.

He started his career in disc cutting as a trainee at Apple in 1968 and his signature can be found in the dead wax/runout grooves of many a rock, punk, post-punk, and new wave record pressed in the UK. Porky would often include cryptic/humorous messages in these etchings, e.g. "you'll never work again" on the A-side of The Fall "Totale's Turns (It's Now Or Never)" (1980).

Studios of his career include: Apple Studios (late 1960s), Master Room (early 1970s), I.B.C. Studios/Portland Studios (1974 to 1984), and Porky's Mastering (since 1984).

Legendary, especially for some of the records that he pushed to the limit and cut quite hot. If your cartridge is not up to snuff, you'll know it when it hits the inner grooves on some of the records he's cut.
