Just found out today, that one of my favourite MC's Guru (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal) has died at the age of 43. This is very sad, since Gang Starr (Guru and DJ Premier) was one of the greatest hip-hop duos ever bringing class and cool to the hip-hop scene.
I also really digged his 4-part Jazzmatazz CD's, which was a very nice blend of hip-hop with real live Jazz musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Ramsey Lewis and Donald Byrd.
His work has influenced many a producer including French Electronica legend, DJ Cam - who sampled his voice on a lot of his earlier tunes, and even got the lucky chance to work with him on his SoulShine album in 2003.
May he rest in peace and let his music live on :(
Guru (1966-2010)
APRIL 25th UPDATE: Guru was actually born in 1961, according to a passport picture, and not 1966 contradicting what most sources say about him being born in 1966, so forgive the error in the above review/tribute.
