Sipho Mabuse

Profile:
Born in Orlando West, Soweto on November 2nd, 1951, young Sipho was recruited by Selby Ntuli to join the band The Beaters whilst a drummer for the school's cadets team. Upon Ntuli's death in 1978, he took over leadership of the band - which by then had renamed itself to Harari.

Going solo after the band's demise and a competent multi-instrumentalist in his own right (drums, flute, piano, saxophone, kalimba, alto flute, timbales and African drums), his biggest commercial hit remains 1985's "Burn Out". Mr. Mabuse's "Chant of the Marching" album was banned in 1992, and he remains an active mentor for other young artists.
