Georg Solti

Real Name:György Stern

Sir Georg Solti was a Hungarian-British orchestral and operatic conductor. He was born 21 October 1912 in Budapest, Austria-Hungary (now Hungary) and died 5 September 1997 in Antibes, France.
After the war, he was appointed musical director of the Bayerische Staatsoper in 1946. In 1952, he moved to the Frankfurter Opern- Und Museumsorchester, where he remained in charge for nine years. He took West German citizenship in 1953. In 1961, he became musical director of the Orchestra Of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He became British citizen in 1972.
