Autechre

Autechre

Profile:
An English electronic music duo formed in 1987 in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, UK by Rob Brown (3) and Sean Booth.

Generally considered to be IDM in style, their music has incorporated a variety of genres and styles ranging from the generic (techno, hip-hop) to the experimental (ambient, experimental electro, musique concrète).

Autechre's weapons of choice are analog synthesizers, though they also incorporate a variety of other synths, samplers and drum machines, including a favoured 606. They collaborate fairly regularly with other Warp Records artists and are heavily involved with the Gescom collective.

Quite possibly my favourite band, always loved Autechre, I like Orbital and Underworld as well but even they can't come close to Rob and Sean's genius, it's really difficult to pick a favourite album because they are all great but if I had to I'd say Untilted.

One of the most important, brilliant, challenging duos ever. Having never been hamstrung by vice, virtue or vitriol, these guys simply continue to break new ground. Almost nobody likes everything they've ever done, but practically everyone finds at least one passage of their music &/or career astonishing. Their journey and sculptures, or at least parts thereof are simply unmissable to music lovers and beyond.

"Autechre's weapons of choice are analog synthesizers"??? Really? As far as I know they were masters at the digital world. They used mostly digital based synths like the Casio RZ1 drum machine, the Ensoniq, Nord Lead, Korg Prophecy, Yamaha DX100...they also used analog equipment of course, but they are NOT analog purists, not even close.

My favourite album by AE is the UNTILTED album, for me the tracks in it enclose both parts of the evolution of their sound, the rythmic one and the experimental one, for me is the perfect amalgam in a futuristic and sofisticated form, wich one is your fauvorite one?

If I may quote a comedic Autechre-Facebook-Fan-Group comment:
"Autechre hacked their own discogs page."

Very interesting duo! Indeed. I listen to "Perlence Subrange 6-36" since months before I go to bed or when I stroll around on the fields @ night with a homie. Perfect formula, that works for me:
If I don't like an album I listen to it again and again and again. After some cerebral decryption work I find album X pleasant.
I tried this with many artists and I know for a fact, that every Autechre album works for me that way.
The first 3 albums have enough mixture out of sounds, drums and melodies.
I say in 5 years or so I might know all their stuff.

What is for certain, is:
Every album is like a big piece of literature. Feel kinda ashamed that I was born to late for their biggest "hits" but luckily I can catch up all that stuff now.

Just to name a few personal favourites:
"Foil", "Bike" <---- Appeared also in GTA IV EFLC , irlite (get 0) or cloudline.
I know there are a lot more, but I want you to find your personal favourites.

Warp really needs to repress all their older releases like they did with BOC last year since the price tags are rarely low and sleeve/vinyl conditions are usually bad.

Saw them in nearly absolute dark at the Paradiso in Amsterdam at 2005's "5 Days Off"-festival with securities waking up people who couldn't stand their sound(and/or the sensi) with flashlights, very fitting and strange atmosphere...Amon Tobin, Autechre, Jaga Jazzist, Richard Devine at one festival...probably one of the best electronic events I've ever visited in my life! The gig was as great as their excellent studio work! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDVUs8qDRjU

Draft 7.30 is my pick of the bunch. All are great but that one really delivers the psychedelia.
