The Machines are a UK punk / rock'n' roll band. They were formed by Nick Paul in Southend-on-Sea, Essex in 1977, and consisted of Nick on guitar and vocals, Duf on bass and John Dee on drums. They played in London Punk clubs The Roxy and The Vortex, as well as many local concerts. The band released the Machines (3) - True Life EP on Wax Records in 1978 which was played on The John Peel Show.

The band split in mid-1978, although in 2006 the band reformed and now comprise Nick Paul on guitar and vocals, Stephen 'Tash' Reddihough on bass and Steve Pegrum (aka 'Steve Machine') on drums. Two rare Machines demo tracks recorded in 1977 ('You Better Hear' and 'Racing') appeared on Various - Bored Teenagers Vol. 4: 16 Great British Punk Originals '77 - '82 on Bin Liner Records. The band played the launch party gig for this, and have continued gigging and recording ever since.
