Groundation really push the boundaries of what it means to be a reggae band. Their music is progressive in the truest sense of the word; their music makes use of jazz, soul and progressive rock influences which produces a very interesting and original style (a rarity for a modern reggae band for sure!). Harrison Stafford's vocals are stronger in the band's latter releases (the earlier albums require a little bit of getting used to), but the instrumentation is absolute perfection throughout. If you've been looking for a modern roots reggae band to prove that the genre is still alive and well today, look no further. Music like this will sadly never reach out to the general public (who are content to listen to Bob Marley's greatest hits on repeat), but their lack is commercial success is no reflection of the band's quality, which is consistently superb!
