Frits is a collaboration between Freek de Jonge, members/ex-members of Nits and Freek’s wife Hella de Jonge on violin. The band name Frits is a composition of the names Freek and Nits.
The driving force behind Frits is Freek de Jonge and Robert Jan Stips. Freek knows Robert Jan already from his time with Supersister. Freek is also a great admirer of Nits. They agreed to work together at some point in time. This came finally to fruition in 1994.
Frits performed in 1994 from 28 to 31 December at Nieuwe De La Mar Theater in Amsterdam and in 1995 from 2 to 5 March at Carré also in Amsterdam. Two concerts in 1995 were played in Belgium: on 1 June in Antwerp and on 3 June in Gent.
On 14 December 2004 Freek and Nits together with some other musicians performed again for a one off concert at Paradiso in Amsterdam.
Frits performed in its original line-up two songs on 27 May 2014 at Stadsschouwburg in Haarlem as a part of a 40th anniversary event of Nits called “Nits & Friends”.
In August and September 2015 Frits reunited again for four concerts. On 29 August at Uitmarkt in Amsterdam, on 23 September at dorpshuis-café de Werf in Hauwert (try out), on 25 September at De Oosterpoort in Groningen and on 27 September at Carré in Amsterdam.
