The members: James, Justin, Eric and Steve, who prefer to omit their last names, make up 22 Even. The band comes from Melvindale, but the members have resided all over the Downriver area.
The history: Created as an “emotional release” as Steve puts it, a certain mystery surrounds the band’s participants. It has been through many singers, but after two years settled in on the current lineup for the recording of last year’s release “Alexithmyia” at Woodshed Studios in Ferndale with Producer Tim Pak.
What's up with the name: "To me, it has to do with life paths,” said Steve. “In numerology, 22 is the master life path number, and has to do with reaching what you’re looking for. “The ‘even’ part has a feeling of balance and moderation.”
The style: “We have been called ‘James Taylor on meth’ by some,” said Steve. “We’re very influenced by emotions,” adding that fans of Deftones, Cold, Radiohead and Mudvayne may appreciate the band’s sound.
Got anything recorded? “Alexithymia,” the band’s debut full-length album, was released in late 2002 and is available at www.22Even.com.
Tell us your future? “Lots of art,” said Steve. “We’ll take it as far as we can without sacrificing quality. Art is meant to be seen, heard (and) felt, so we’ll work on trying to get it out to as many people as possible.”
