Got to see Ripperton for the first time this past Sunday at Hudson Terrace in NYC. It was a rooftop party with a retractable roof. There was an opening dj, then Jozif, Ripperton, and finally Mike Huckaby as the closer. I have to say that Ripperton's set stole the show with Huckaby's set coming in a close second. The previous djs were playing around 125 to 126bpm. When Ripperton came on, he immediately took the tempo down to around 121-122bpm. First or second track that he played was Global Communication 8 07 with a pre-edited kick drum built into it. Absolutely menacing moment. When he played that track I remember thinking to myself "holy sh*t!!". From what I remember, Ripperton's set was almost all dark and dirty. I didnt notice him playing his own productions although its possible that he did. I didnt really hear too many melodies that I recall. If you've ever seen DJ Three spin, it was like one of those slow cracked out sets. Just my cup of tea! I got to shake hands with Ripperton after he finished. Very nice person, a bit quiet but that's probably due to language barrier. Total gentleman. I highly recommend you see him dj he will murder it. His mixing was absolutely flawless and his programming was brilliant! A true musician.
