Cuban singer (b. Havana, Cuba, March 23, 1910 – d. October 27, 1988 Flushing, Queens, New York, USA). He emigrated to New York in 1956, brother of Vicentico Valdés.
Performed with Tito Puente and bands like La Sonora Matancera, Estrellas Del Ritmo, the Septeto Nacional, and [the Orquesta Casino De La Playa.
Don't confuse with his son, pianist, Alfredo Valdés Jr.: both can appear as Alfredito Valdes.
Brother of singer and bandleader Vicentico Valdés and percussionists Marcelino Valdes and Oscar Valdés (Padre), father of pianist Alfredo Valdés Jr., and husband of singer and guitarist Ana María Purmuy who was a member of the all-women orchestra Anacaona.
