For those of you who may not know how El Gran Combo started, I'll provide you with just a bit. The majority of the original musicians came from Rafael Cortijos orchestra with Ismael Rivera on lead vocal (Sonero Mayor) Ismael Rivera was arrested, charged with drug smuggling and sentenced to a few years in the penitentiary. Cortijos musicians had families they needed to provide for, and decided to form their own orchestra, and thus began the very begining of El Gran Combo. Imagine, if Ismael Rivera was never caught, we'd never have El Gran Combo! Things happen for a reason. And this was a GREAT reason.
