Pompeu Fabra i Poch, also known in Spanish as Pompey Fabra (February 20, 1868, Villa de Gracia - December 25, 1948, Prades) was a Spanish industrial engineer, known for having established the modern rules of the Catalan language. The villa where he was born is now one of the most popular districts of the city of Barcelona. The last nine years of his life were spent in exile in a French town near the Pyrenees, but between 1912 and 1939 lived in Badalona.
