Ollie King (2)

Ollie King is a melodeon player and singer whose music is steeped in the customs and traditions of England. Based in Sheffield, he is starting to make a name for himself as one of the most exciting and interesting up-and-coming melodeon players in the country, and has already developed into a mature, well-rounded musician with a unique style and approach to traditional music. A defining feature of his sound is his sole use of vintage Hohner instruments (maintained and modified by Mike Rowbotham), setting him apart from other players of his age.

After being a finalist in the 2011 New Roots competition, Ollie has gone from strength to strength, releasing his critically acclaimed debut album Gambit in autumn 2014. The album, released on RootBeat Records, was recorded with Andy Bell and features guest performances from Sam Sweeney, Fay Hield, Rosie Hood, and James Findlay.

In summer 2015, Ollie was asked to be a musician in the National Theatre's production of Timberlake Wertenbaker's landmark play "Our Country's Good", working alongside BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker. The production, which ran between August and October in the Olivier Theatre, featured music curated and composed by Cerys Matthews MBE.
