“My dear friend has gained his wings today. Not only was James an incredible singer and musician but an even better person and friend. We often got mistaken for each other and would laugh about it together. You will be deeply missed but your voice and legacy will live on forever. Rest In Peace James” — Jeffrey Osborne, Jan 29, 2019.

“James Ingram. When I first heard "Just Once" from Quincy Jones' already beyond magnificent "The Dude" album, it completely stopped me in my tracks.
I blinked. Shook my head. And immediately played it again. Struck by one of the most real, most genuinely emotional voices I'd ever heard. I played it over and over, incredulous.
66 is way too young for such brilliance to be removed from the planet. Rather, I will ever thank God for allowing my ears and heart to glimpse Paradise... through this man's voice. Rest in everlasting peace, brother James.” — Leroy Burgess

“There are no words to convey how much my heart aches with the news of the passing of my baby brother James Ingram. With that soulful, whisky sounding voice, James Ingram was simply magical." — Quincy Jones

"James Ingram, much like Anita Baker IMO, is someone we don’t think or talk about on a regular basis like Prince, Aretha, Whitney, Chaka..... I think you know what I’m saying.
And yet in his passing, we lament and recall his soulful genius in a way that suggests that no matter how much he may have been relegated to the background in our day to day, he touched us in ways that we’ve held contained deep in our hearts and that some of us only fully realised upon his passing.
In an oddly circuitous way, as far as I’m concerned, that is sort of testimony as to how magnificent a talent he was.
Like a family member who lives far away that you never get to see but still love dearly.
And when you learn of their passing, just makes you regret that you fell out of touch.
What a voice. RIP brother." - John Robie
