His first #1 in the U.S. was "Catch a Falling Star" by Perry Como in 1958 (co-written by Paul Vance) followed by "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini" by Brian Hyland (also co-written by Vance & charted to #8 in the U.K.) followed by "Calcutta" in 1960 by Lawrence Welk & His Orchestra (co-written by Vance again, along with Heino Gaze & Hans Bradtke). His last #1he wrote with his wife, "Johnny Angel", sung by Shelley Fabares--the song hit #1 in 1962. In the U.K. "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" by Bombalurina hit #1 in 1990.
