Claude Maurane is a Belgian singer and actress, born in Ixelles Belgium 12 November 1960, died 7 May 2018 in Schaerbeek Belgium.
Born in a family of musicians (her father Guy-Philippe Luypaerts was a composer and director of the Academy of Music in Verviers, and her mother Jeannie Patureaux was a piano teacher), she started singing at an early age, and as a teenager, she participated to singing contests under the pseudonym of Claudie Claude. In 1979, she participated to the spectacle "Brel En Mille Temps. She was discovered there by the French songwriter, Pierre Barouh.
From 1980, she released her first singles on Barouh's label Saravah under the pseudonym Claude Maurane. She later got small contracts that lead her more often to sing in the street or in Café-theater, or to be backing vocalist for the likes of Viktor Lazlo, Jo Lemaire or Philippe Lafontaine.
Around 1985-86, she decided to shorten her stage name to Maurane, when her career really started to take off.
For a while she still continued to use the name Claude Maurane for her songwriting credits.
