Jazz & jazz-fusion saxophonist and flautist (born 3rd January 1939, Wellington, New Zealand). He played with a variety of bands in the UK from the mid 1960's. These included progressive fusion groups, such as Blues Incorporated and Nucleus, and line-ups & residencies with the likes of Tubby Hayes, Ronnie Scott and Keith Tippett. Smith formed his own quartet back in New Zealand in 1982, where his albums gained considerable success in the jazz charts.
