Stephen A. Crisp

Profile:
The Rev. Stephen Crisp, organist, will be one of the featured performers and conductors. Crisp began his music career as a student at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He then became organist and choirmaster at St. John’s Church, Ogdensburg, New York, where after three years, still in his 20s, he was named assistant organist at Canterbury Cathedral in England, making him one of a small number of North Americans ever appointed to a paid position in an English cathedral. After serving at Canterbury, he became organist and choirmaster of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Québec City and held a similar position at Saint Matthias’ Church in Montréal, where for 22 years he conducted a large choir of boys and men, who sang in Canada, the United States, and in England, and performed with the Montréal Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he directed the Montréal Boys Choir School at CAMMAC, Québec, gave many choral workshops and organ recitals in the U.S. and Canada, and with noted pianist Kenneth Woodman gave frequent piano four-hands performances in Montréal.

Crisp was ordained priest and served 14 years as chaplain of Saint Anne’s Veterans’ Hospital in Montréal until his retirement in 2009.
