Like KANSAS, FOREIGNER, IRON BUTTERFLY and more, YES are just a TRIBUTE band now. But in their day, they created amazing album after album. I'm very disappointed that NOW when they release a box set of music, it is way over priced and there isn't much good on it. But, they did release some great box sets 20 years ago.. Would really like to see a complete live release of TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS in high quality. We KNOW they recorded some shows, as 3 of the 4 sides have been released.

Unfairly regarded as rock music "dinosaurs". At least the dinosaurs eventually died out.

There's got to be those other studio and live multi track tapes... Even if the live one's were two track stereo ... Come on Yes where's your vault... Basically have to resort to bootlegs in this band... The miracle of the finding of the messed up multitrack CTTE tour box set was all fine and all but BILL BRUFORD QUIT BEFORE THE TOUR ... So you have Alan White playing ALL of Bruford's drumming and in retrospect it's just too simple and just rock... However ( Howe ) you go on You Tube wow there must 2 hours worth of just Bruford material mostly live from Europe TV...

Yes at best can be mental, wild ,incoherent...awesome! At worst they can be dull as dish-water. 1970 - 77 is a pretty good period.

Their best and most brillant moments can be found when they dare something: In the most abstract and adventurous pieces. The big run in 'Gates Of Delerium', the big flow in 'The Remembering', 'Close To The Edge' a.s.o., you can always have a glimpse on ingenious moments when you dig into the depths of the music, no matter if it's 'Big Generator', 'Magnification' or 'Fragile'.

Yes are a difficult band to sum up in only a few words, quite often utterly brilliant , sometimes absurd and overblown, trying to follow Yes's journey is almost half the fun as the various incarnations emerged, evolved, and re invented themselves.
So many musicians were hitched to the Yes wagon along the way, and at one stage it even became two 'Yes' wagons, and then one wagon again ( Union is very much the low point IMHO). However the quality of the musicians is beyond doubt, love them or hate them , they influenced Progressive Rock in many ways.
My choices are generally for the earlier material, The Yes Album, Fragile, Close To The Edge, Going For The One but I also like Drama and 90125 as well.

YES were a very influential band for me as a boy and as a person. like GENESIS. these strange sounds and these strange long compositions made me curious. there is more expression possible in music than 'let's twist again'? I think the most creative years of the band were 1971-74. Relayer being the orgasmic end.

Yes is, for a very good reason, my very favourite band on the planet. The very good reason is that they are in fact the best band that has ever existed on this particular planet. Pretty simple really. Just listen to anything that Yes did in the '60's or '70's and you're bound to see why (unless of course you've been blinded by modern society). My favourite Yes moment (and there have been many), was lying back on a poolside lounger in Tahiti listening to "The Revealing science of God", from the live album "Keys to ascension 1", as I had a very much elongated moment of revelation... that life could REALLY be this good! We must have waited all our lives for this moment, moment, moment, moment, MOMENT!
