Saw Spring Heel Jack perform live as opener to Orbital's "In Sides" tour in the '90s at Los Angeles' American Legion Hall. They were phenomenal, proper mental drum 'n' bass and very live. You had no sense what would come at you but with an undeniable sense of groove, so you could still dance with fierce abandon. Loved all their early albums, espcially "68 Million Shades Of...." Have not followed their more free jazz stuff yet.

When you ask the average D&B head that lived through the 90ies who they remember and who they listened to the most Spring Heel Jack is not a name that would come up much if at all.
However they dropped more albums than most D&B producers and a heap of singles as well. Big soaring quality tunes that would have killed dance floors if only they got more play.

True pioneers, their early stuff is amazingly atmospheric, and some of the best of their career so far. Saw them play live recently and their new stuff is very different, and very jazzy!

Grab their first album "There Are Strings" if you have the chance...Serious atmospherics and wicked drum patterns.

LTJ only dreams of making this stuff.
