Howard Wind Chorale & Kelvin W. Washington
The Howard University Band Program has a long and rich legacy of producing musical artists and music educators of the highest caliber. For approximately one hundred years, Howard University has developed band musicians who are second to none. The Howard University musicians on this recording; members of the newly formed Howard Wind Chorale, are from many of the various musical communities in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Howard University students and professors; HU alumni, as well as friends and supporters, all came together to create this historic recording. The director of this ensemble and the arranger of each of the hymns presented here is Prof. Kelvin W. Washington, Associate Director of Bands at Howard University in Washington, DC. Please enjoy this great recording of some classic hymns.
The HOWARD WIND CHORALE, under the baton of Prof. Washington, carefully selected volunteers to participate in these recording sessions (held on June 18-20, 2015). The recording session was done in the band facilities of Howard University. This collaboration of faculty, students, alumni, and friends of the Howard University Band Program is being done within the great tradition of Howard University music projects. This is a special ensemble, formed in 2015 to produce this very special music under the auspices of Wash Music Publications. The goal of this project was to record Symphonic Band Literature composed/arranged by African Americans in order to help support the Howard University Concert Band into the future.
This is the first of a trilogy set of hymns recorded by this ensemble commemorating Pro. Washington twentieth year as conductor of the Howard University Concert Band.
