Lost Witness were an act that got major publicity in the 1999-2000 golden age of trance.

Their hits became staples in every trance dj's reportoire, but it is only right to investigate the reason for this ubiquity.

Firstly, there was Happiness Happening. Featuring a lush, mesmerising vocal it took a fantastic remix by Lange to make the track a success. What a success he did achieve, pushing the track to number 18 in the 1999 UK singles chart.

The follow up single, Red Sun Rising, again took a remix by Lange to make the song commercially worthwhile. On the back of Lange's remix, the song reached 22 in the singles chart. Remembering this was right at the turn of the century, when hard copy (CD / Vinyl) sales still counted, it was a great achievement for Lost Witness.

Come the third single, and remix duty was handed over to Darren Tate (AKA Angelic) to remix 7 Colours. He made a fantastic, euphoric remix that captured the spirit of Lange's previous remixes while keeping his own style firmly intact.

After this came Did I Dream (Song To The Siren), and this time the remix duty was handed to Tiësto. He made a wonderful remix, much in tune with his progression of the time into more deep tech trance sound.

It was at this time that Lost Witness lost their appeal. And it is worth noting the most important of facts:

Not one of their hits were actually their own creation. Every hit they had was remixed by another artist to make their material commercially viable. Having heard their original material, it is obvious why. While they employed excellent vocalists, their production standards were sorely lacking. You only have to listen to their attempted remix of Delerium's Innocente to fully realise the scope of their limited capabilities.

So, while they are remembered fondly, do not forget that it is others who made them what they are.
