Swiss industrial rock band. Formed in 1985 in Fribourg, The Young Gods took their name from one of Swans' early EPs. They are notable for their distinctive sound, in which a sampler is utilized to create the sound of electric guitar and bass guitars, whilst retaining a live drummer and vocalist.

...i lived in the same flat as the young gods when they recorded this 2nd
album in zürich. singer franz treichler borrowed a demo tape from me with
music of sky bird's accordeon-player, came home in the evening and had used
samples for "Charlotte";-) i saw the group the first time in a small club in
berlin may 1987 and was deeply impressed. jim morrison influenced visionary
stuff, please stop mentioning their epigones ministry & nine inch nails again
when i'm near you...

Both previous reviewers are "wrong". Young Gods are one of those bands like e.g. Dead Can Dance - they're not easy to classify. If you listen to their albums one by one - only then you can get the big picture. From industrial to rock to electronic rock to ambient....it's not a problem for those guys. Me personally I've always viewed them as open-minded artists creating stuff for open-minded listeners. It's hard to put them in 1 drawer. That's why both my previous commenters are "wrong" and "right" in the same time, but just partly. Let's not mix personal views and feelings with what actually happened in this glorious and already legendary band's discography. Let's hope all what's best is still ahead of them. They haven't mixed e.g. dubstep with rock yet - can you imagine that ? I can't, but I'm sure TYG could do that ! LONG LIVE THE YOUNG GODS

The previous reviewer is completely wrong about the so-called evolution of The Young Gods, the changes that happened to this band were not very good musically, but that is largely due to the incredible quality of their debut album. This work was like a comet that hit the Earth when it first came out, there was nothing like it known to mankind, and to top it was nearly impossible. Their second album was nearly there, purely in terms of quality, but the "shock of the new" was no longer there, and once their vocalist started to sing in English, their music became simply more and more mediocre, when finally by the end of the nineties they hit rock bottom, with nothing more to offer. So the evolution was more of a devolution, but their debut still sounds like it came from outer space, even today it sounds ahead of its time, and it is simply one of the most original works in the history of music.

They started with alternative industrial rock, and then they slowly shifted to a more ambient, melodic sound. The music they released in the 90' is the powerful alternative rock they are known to play on stage, while the last albums are really the achievement of theirs career... evolution I should say. They are the pionneers of alternative-industrial.

In my opinion, the album "TV Sky" is what they were, and "Love 2.7", from the album Second Nature, is what they become.

They are the perfect example of evolution of music.
