In a way it's a shame that the best known LME production was remixed by Bizarre Inc and not a true reflection of the talent of these guys. 'Keep On Jumpin'' was a massive club hit back in '96, matched only by the Rhythm Masters' crazy take on Todd Terry's hit of the same Musique sample. But for a short while in the mid- to late-90s, the Lisa Marie Experience cropped up on numerous 12"ers, remixing mediocre pop and adequate dance tracks and turning them into twisted disco at a time when disco house was rapidly descending into loops and filters. Just check out their stunning remix of Johnny Ray's 'Are You Johnny Ray?', pumping it up with a brittle organ sound, similar to X-Static's 'I'm Standing'. Or their take on Helicopter's 'On Ya Way', with its punchy intro and bouncy bassline. Then there's their '97 remix of Robin S's classic 'Show Me Love', once a secret weapon of mine in the noughties due to its remarkably modern sound yet retaining all the retro charm of the original. Their productions were tight, crisp and energetic, possessing a harder edge yet a hint of dirty proto-electro that would become popular in the new millennium. No surprises then that one half of the duo would go on to produce as D Ramirez, the legendary electro house producer behind that Bodyrox remix that was everywhere in 2006.
