Tamar-kali

Real Name:

Tamara Colletta Brown

Profile:

Born in Brooklyn, NYC, guitarist and vocalist Tamar-kali describes her music as "aggressive melodic rock and deconstructed chamber rock, with a voice that shakes your foundation with soulful intensity". She became a solo writer, musician and composer in 1997. She rose to prominence starring in James Spooner's award-winning documentary Afro-Punk. Inspired by her longtime love of strings, the Psychochamber Ensemble was established in 1998 - an all female instrumentalist string sextet which includes deconstructed versions of songs from her 5ive Piece rock project and pieces arranged and composed specifically for strings. Her recent performance piece and project is Pseudoacoustic Siren Songs backed with a “pseudo” acoustic band.
Influences: Fishbone, Bad Brains, PJ Harvey, Grace Jones
