Claude Nobs

Profile:
Founder and general manager of the Montreux Jazz Festival since 1967. Born 4 February 1936 in Territet near Montreux, Switzerland, died 10 January 2013 in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 1973 he became the director of the Swiss branch of Warner, Elektra and Atlantic. He also played the harmonica.

Immortalized in the song “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple: “Funky Claude was running in and out, pulling kids out the ground”, which tells the true story of a fire that burned down the Montreux Casino in December 1971, where the group was scheduled to record shortly after Frank Zappa performed.
