DJ Cliffy

DJ Cliffy currently lives in Lisbon and is married to the former Brazilian model & interior designer Erika de Carvalho. According to Time Out magazine, he is responsible for two of London´s most successful clubnights Batmacumba & Future World Funk.

He is one half of the production duo Sugarloaf Gangsters, a regular contributor to Straight No Chaser magazine and has a Masters degree in Philosophy.

Batmacumba was a monthly event at the ICA (Institute of contemporary Arts, London) produced and hosted by DJ Cliffy. The night ran for 12 years showcasing Brazilian music, short films and other art forms. It resulted in residencies around the world and invites to work with major venues like the Barbican and South Bank Centre London.

Future World Funk started life as a club-night hosted by DJ Cliffy & Russ Jones at the Notting Hill Arts Club which quickly morphed into compilation album series, helping to launch Ocho Records selling over 50,000 copies. Future World Funk was an attempt to deconstruct the Eurocentric notion of ´world music´ presenting a decidedly more democratic concept of global beats. The compilation series led to worldwide deejay performances at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Womad, SFinks amongst others.
