Phi-Phi

Real Name:
Philippe Toutlemonde
Profile:
Philippe Toutlemonde aka Phi Phi was born in France in 1963 but he made his musical career in Belgium. His DJ career began in 1985 and since then he played together with DJ’s like Paul van Dyk, John Digweed, Danny Howells, Anthony Pappa, Sasha, Cass, Laurent Garnier, Oliver Lieb, Francesco Farfa, Jimmy Van M, Seb Fontaine and many more.

Together with his studio partner Philippe Van Mullem they created the successful project Quadran. Quadran would be paramount in the global success of the newly formed Bonzai Trance Progressive, this label along with people like Philippe were bringing a new type of sound to clubland, trance was becoming more and more listened to and appreciated due to the quality of production. Quadran's first release “Eternally” kick-started this movement, melodic, uplifting trance was inadvertently coming to life. After the well received first outing Quadran then put out “Free Your Mind” and again benchmarks were raised. “Illusive Dream” followed the simply amazing masterpiece that is “Neural Phase”, and it’s now that people really start to notice this sound. 1996 would also see the critically acclaimed album entitled “Voyages” get a release on this ever expanding label.

Many more collaborations followed with the likes of Greg D with the successful hit "Jesus Trip", “L’Odyssey Of Love” and the project Oudja, Honey C, Innertales and The Gaps with long standing studio partner Philippe Van Mullem and seeing releases on Hard Times, Bonzai Trance Progressive, X-Stream, Tranceportation and XTC Records. The "Magma - Jungle Trip" release came out in 2003 with Steph Garner & Patrick Fasseau on Mackenzie recordings. The Db Movement project was created a few years later in 2005 together with Steph Garner and get some notable signatures on the labels Work and LCD records. Lately in 2013 he released a few new releases with Laurent Veronnez aka Airwave on Bonzai Progressive.

Described as one of the lonely DJs who can play and produce the vanished old Belgian trance style. Phi-Phi is a master in mixing and can make unbelievable storyboards. An unmatched track selection, and a unique choice in records makes him the only one who can show trance haters where their opinion is wrong. Known all over Belgium for his “Phi Phi Legendary Monday’s” at Extreme (Affligem, Brussels) and DJ residencies at At The Villa, Boccaccio Life, Fuse, Oxygene, Tour & Taxi, Cirao, Pulp, Barocco, he also crossed the borders with his music, from Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland to Spain (Ibiza), Croatia, USA (Miami) and Luxembourg.

In 2012 he launched his own tech house progressive & techno party concept called "Mouvement Perpetuel" with himself as the resident, CP (Bedrock Records) and Cosmo. The concept runs also his own weekly radio show on Studio One FM.

Still DJing and appearing at many top clubs including the recently launched Bonzai Legendary Events and some big festivals like Tomorrowland, Legacy Festival, etc... Philippe is one of those artists that can stand proud and remains true to a genre that he helped shape and nurture, and he will always be included in the vaults of the history of Bonzai.

I agree! My friend J-TEC here below & other users are right! This guy made all the difference in those periods. I'm 35 years old since 06/11... & what the F***... I'm not old! Phi-Phi celebrated he's 50th birtday on 21th september 2013 @ Cherry Moon! This guy is already a legend... in my ears ;-) Thanks Phi-Phi. You made Belgium what is used to be in the 90's. Today, I still appriciate what you are doing when you play oldschool trance & your I like a lot your concept "Mouvement Perpetuel"!

Ok, i dont wanna give every dj on Discogs a comment.
But this one must have one.
In my opinion he's just the best !
Born in France, but made his carreer in Belgium.
Played at clubs as: At The Villa, Activy, Boccaccio, Extreme, and played gigs just about everywhere in Europe.
Famous For his typical progressive sound and mixing skills.
He made "Progressive Trance" big! in the Belgium scene (1990-2000).
Remember Phi-Phi at "EXTREME ON MONDAYS"
I just love this guy !

Definatly one of the lonely dj's who can play and produce the vanished old belgian trance style. Phi-Phi is a master in mixing and can make unbelievable storyboards. A unmatched trackselection, and an unique choice in records makes him the only one who can show trance haters where their opinion is wrong. Known allover Belgium for his "Phi-Phi monday's" at Extreme (affligem, brussels). Many Extreme-clubbers only went to the club on monday because of this high skilled artist.
