After studies in music (violin) and architecture in France, Leila Albayaty started at the IAD (Institut des Arts de Diffusion) Film School in Brussels. She left the film school after some months and directed a documentary, "Vacances" (Holidays), a video log of a journey throughout southern Europe with a caravan, but with no car. In parallel to her work as a video artist, she also worked on compositions for several performances and short films.
In 2006, she brought out an album of her own music, "Dans le soleil", on the French label Stupid Competitions. She then returned to film-making by shooting her first fiction short film, VU, in Rome. She performed the live concert of the movie with A. Paquotte. Coproduced by Recyclart. Vu (Stempel Films) received a special mention from the Berlinale Shorts 2009.
Leila Albayaty lives and works between Brussels and Berlin. She is currently working on her next album and on her next feature movie, a musical documentary-fiction.
