Born in Wolverhampton, England. She began her career as a session singer. Later, becoming involved with A New Funky Generation she worked closely with producer Richard Frost.
Also during this time Marika worked with artists such as Joy Rose and sang on a number of 'Café Del Mar' albums. Over the next decade, Marika toured live fronting a number of soul funk bands, mainly Stoned Soul Picnic and Evolution.
