He grew up in Washington, D.C. He studied saxophone at the University of Michigan and at the New School for Social Research. At Bennington College he studied with master drummer and healer Milford Graves.
In 2001 Abarbanel-Wolff moved to Berlin, Germany. He is a founding member and musical director of the Afrobeat Academy. Ben produced two albums for Ebo Taylor, toured extensively with Ebo from 2011-15. In 2014, Ben and Kwame Yeboah produced the album "Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band" for Strut Records. He has toured and recorded with artists like: Ebo Taylor, Tony Allen, Gwen McCrae, Pat Thomas, Poets of Rhythm, Marva Whitney, Xavier Naidoo and many others.
