I'm in awe of Hiroshi's output. Pretty much became one of my favorite artists ever. Interesting considering how little was known of him during his life. For me the perfect outsider artist, only caring about music and very little about fame. His music really comes from within and...for the lack of better word, "real". It feels real and that's why people can connect to it across the globe. Some call it simple which makes it better, you don't need "complicated" processes to convey emotions. People can connect to his music because he conveys real emotions, not fake emotions created to sell music. It's very lucky he could do all this with also such great instruments like Rhodes and classic synthesizers instead of a computer. That just adds another layer to it.

The assertion that Yoshimura was an "outsider artist" is just plain absurd, the man was an absolute professional both as a classically-trained music academic and a working composer-for-hire. I mean, this was the man who produced a hybrid dance-ambient-opera album for a make-up school, so gushing about "realness from within" comes off as patronizing. He wrote for synthesizer, he wrote for Koto ensemble, he made cheesy opera-house, he wrote music to commemorate train stations. He was a literal music professor at Wseda University, which is... not a small place.

Music isn't sport. There is no versus argument you need to be having here. I'm sitting here listening to Face Music, and enjoying it in spite of the cheese level and (sorry mate!) the crass commercialism of the way he prostituted his classical music knowledge on this album... but since the end result is amusing it's making me think "Maybe I should re-evaluate Enigma, they used to drive me mad when I was a kid but it might be fun to listen to now...?"

Just sayin' fam...

I am a newcomer to Hiroshi Yoshimura. This music is calming, and to be able to have personal copies of all his music would be a blessing to anyone who wants it. I hope someone reads these requests and responds with release of his music.

If anyone at LITA or Empire of Signs is looking at this - please reissue the rest of Yoshimura’s albums! Flora, Green, Soundscape 1, Wet Land - these are all absolutely perfect albums, and deserve to be shared with everyone all over again on CD and vinyl. Don’t let these masterpieces fade away!
