American songwriter (Aug. 15, 1898, NY City – July 7, 1970, Manhasset, Long Island), grew up in Massachusetts with his brothers Harry Tobias
and Henry Tobias
, also songwriters. Started his musical career in vaudeville. In the '30's he formed a revue Songwriters on Parade
. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he wrote together with Cliff Friend
"We Did It Before And We Can Do It Again
" to reminding US of World War I. From 1929 to the '60's, he contributed songs for a number of musicals, such as Manhattan Melodrama

. He was Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
