The Encyclopedia of Country Music says that the Bond-Wakely-Harrell trio "pulled a clever musical scam" by recording for two companies under different names: the Jimmy Wakely Trio (for Decca Records) and Johnny Bond & the Cimarron Boys (for Columbia Records).
Bond learned as a child to play the trumpet, ukulele and guitar. At age 22 he changed his name to “Johnny Bond” and moved to Oklahoma City, formig his trio with Jimmy Wakely and Scotty Harrell that eventually became the Bell Boys.
Bond was posthumously honored with election into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
