German pianist, vibraphonist, conductor, composer, and educator, born 19 March 1935 in Heidelberg, Germany - died 9 April 2023 in Albany, New York. Moved from Paris to New York in 1966 where he was one of the main performers when Symphony For Improvisers was recorded. He was the successor of John Cage at the New School For Social Research. 1971 he founded the 'Creative Music Foundation' together with Ornette Coleman. 1973 he founded the Creative Music Studio at Woodstock (NY) together with his wife Ingrid Berger (née Sertso).
