Urban Hype

Profile:
Early nineties house/rave duo who had a string of underground successes before gracing the Top 10 with 'A Trip To Trumpton' in the summer of '92. Sadly they never appeared in the Top 40 again, but their one hit wonder is now considered a rave classic and perfect example of the 'Toytown Techno' sub-genre. When they performed PAs they were joined by their dancers, Steve & Kelly, and MC Bounce.

Read they were pigs in Ron's Wells studio. Just another group that passed through his studio. Takes claim, real people know who did this track. Carl Cox came out in papers and explained who's behind this.

Caught somewhere between underground respectability and commercial success, Urban Hype are somewhat overlooked when it comes to retrospective thoughts on UK Rave.

Sure, they made it big with the toytown "Trip To Trumpton". But it's actually a pretty decent track in itself, not worth lumping in with the likes of Sesame's Treat. Take away the sample and it's a solid rave anthem regardless.

Dig deeper and you get solid classics such a Industrial Evolution & Odyssey, full of invention and cheese-free.

Also, don't forget the classic "The Feeling", a hands-in-the-air piano-led rave anthem to equal anything by Bizarre Inc, Love Decade, n-joi, The Time Frequency etc.

Massive respect to Urban Hype.
