A truly shinning example of a devoted, non-commercial artist, who not just composed music and wrote lyrics, but fully lived it, no matter how few financial success it gained. Always prolific, always sincere, always dedicated. Sadly, history turned it's back on his art, even to this day he is not famous enough which is a bummer, because i consider Adrian my favorite singer-songwriter and his band "The Sound" one of the titans of post-punk/new wave/indie rock scene. I was quite surprised, when i found out that Borland not only suffered from paranoidal schizophrenia, but refused to take his medicine just to perform better. He did everything in his power to create the music his heart was aching for till the day he could not take it anymore. There's nothing overly dramatic about that. Man was a real poet, complicated, but, on the other hand, full of hope - he considered himself an Ian Curtis antipode; constantly spiced up his melancholy with beauty of life. Too bad, that even such an honorable way of living led him to suicide. Makes me cry. If you can't find recent documentary about him ("Walking in the Opposite Direction") ask me for it, it's done maturely, with an educational moral and respect to both Borland and his colleagues.
"But these are other people`s dreams
They don`t resemble mine at all
And every day the things you crave
Make a play for my affection
I tell you straight, I won`t be swayed
I`m walking in the opposite direction"
