I remember when I first saw the Hard Hands label catalogue and I imagined Dee Patten as a female vocalist huskily whispering the line "whoooo's the baaaaad maaan?" ...but it turns out that Dee is a bloke, shattering my adolescent expectations of a breathy nightclub seductress, and that he was apparently given this nickname because of his habit of saying "that's a rough drum pattern" when in the studio.

He put out a few releases in the early 90's but he is easily best known for the classic Who's The Bad Man from '92 with its deep dub-styled bassline, Apache break and distinctive vocal samples (lifted from the end of Jamaican movie The Harder They Come). It was quite a seminal release and sometimes cited alongside Lennie De Ice's We Are I.E. as being a proto-jungle track. Its legacy still lives on too - a new version of it has been big in the London old skool hardcore circuit for the past year or so.
