There aren't many techno artists who have as distinct of a stylistic identity as Ibrahim Alfa. Consistantly raw & abrasive, yet versatile enough that he can competently delve into a myriad of different styles & moods. Ibi has an uncanny knack for finding infectiously "A-rhythmic" rhythmic patterns. And for whatever reason, there's always some sort of hypnotic groove or chord pattern within all the confusion that will suck you in even further. So it can be heady.
Eventually, one discovers that part of Ibi's trick is that he resides firmly within the Wonky end of the Techno spectrum. Perhaps its that very disregard for structural convention that gives it that unmistakable edge & personality. But it annoys me that I can't mix more of his stuff w/ ease. Regardless, he really offers all the avenues for purists & explorers of any genre. Be it Techno, Downtempo, Industrial, Electro, or Breaks, Ibi will make tracks that you'll go crazy for. Mental, trippy, Techno at its best.
