Septeto Nacional

Profile:
Cuban group of son musicians. Originally founded in Havana, Cuba, by Ignacio Piñeiro in 1927 as Sexteto Nacional, they changed their name to Septeto Nacional when a trumpet player was added in 1928. The Septeto Nacional disbanded in 1937. The group resumed playing for a recording session in 1940 and a television appearance in 1954. After the Cuban revolution of 1959, the group played again and is still playing as Septeto Nacional De Ignacio Piñeiro. Their CD "Poetas del Son" was nominated for a Grammy in 2004.
