Cuban group of son musicians. Originally founded in Havana, Cuba, by Ignacio Piñeiro
in 1927 as Sexteto Nacional
, they changed their name to Septeto Nacional
when a trumpet player was added in 1928. The Septeto Nacional disbanded in 1937. The group resumed playing for a recording session in 1940 and a television appearance in 1954. After the Cuban revolution of 1959, the group played again and is still playing as Septeto Nacional De Ignacio Piñeiro
. Their CD "Poetas del Son" was nominated for a Grammy in 2004.
