British classical double bass player, violone player, harpsichord player, classical pianist, treble viola da gamba player, double bass teacher and expert on Baroque musique. Born in 1932 in Wolverton (near Rugby), Buckinghamshire, England, UK.
Aged 16, he won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied piano and double bass. He then joined the City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra as Sub-Principal Bass. He later joined the London Symphony Orchestra (1958-1964) becoming Sub-Principal Double Bass (1963-1964). Then, in 1965, he became a founding member of The Academy Of St. Martin-in-the-Fields; he was Principal Bass, touring around the world and recording with the chamber orchestra. He was a member of the Bath Festival Orchestra. He was a bouble bass coach at National Youth String Orchestra. In 1975, he moved to Sydney, Australia where he became Professor of Double Bass at the Sydney Conservatorium Of Music.
