I love Tool, but it seems like nearly all their official vinyl pressings suck.

4 albums and an ep from 92 to 2019. Maynard is a self righteous pompous ass who with his band of geniuses create some of the best music ever. Damn them for not reissuing there measly record catalog.

So I decided I wanted to start listening to Tool again, as it's been forever. I listened to them a lot when I was younger, but haven't in forever. Lo and behold they are absent from all streaming services (can't blame them on that one)! I impulsively (re)bought Undertow, Aenima, and Lateralus on CD last night lolol thank goodness for Discogs! Would love it if the vinyl reissues still happened..

i think they called the last album 10,000 days because that's how long it would be until the next one.

I love this band. They may never be considered one of the best rock bands ever (except from a fan perhaps) but you will not find a rocker who doesn't like them, which is definitely something to be said.

I may have not been a fan of Progressive metal but this band marks the total exception for me, not just because it is technically awesome but because it brings a thematic with each album that is bewildering, ever more intuitive and enriching for the listener.
Each album is a study about the wonders of life in this strange but unlimited universe, (and that is probably why as most genious it takes them so long to bring a new album). To create a set of corresponding ideas that not just come as excellent craftmanship but full of content and that propels the listener to redirect questions about himself, his role in life, the place where he is at, the nature of things, the interrelation of mathematics and geometry into the core of the existence of every single thing and the fact that we are human gods who forgot their origin and meaning.
Fuck sake!, name me a band into the pop-rock bussiness who is able to get pass the lines of autodestruction, nihilism and anguish from our days, the apocalyptic mood, the "who gives a fuck" attitude that demarks the last six generations of music? That is why this band is something else, and may not be for everyone even though, wonderfully it has a wide set of followers.

My approach to Tool was the one from the skeptic, It came as a recommendation, A late one if I may add, as the band had already made their known discography to this moment. Their first album "Undertow" is nevertheless their most primitive, and where they started to break the rules to transform into the demigod they are now. It is since "Aenima" since things started to become more interesting and differentiated. "Aenima" was a clear allusion to Jüng´s Animus-Anima dyad principle of the human being, comprehends as I said at first, a meticulous study on the human psyche and the infinite of its possibilities and the visible inter connection with the structure of the universe.

Tool may be a sort of awakening circumstance for the unquiet spirit, or for the sensitive soul, whatever one may want to call it, the spiritual truth, or the unveiling illumination is associated within. For me it was sort of a two way manifestation. One of wonder and discovery and one of self verification on the certain things i knew by intuition or by lectures that suggested me a way of thinking-feeling.
Tool may have tracks or memorable moments that may move you really deep, till the point of feeling in touch with something "beyond" you, or to reveal utter realities that may crack your soul, that of course if you incarnate the aforementioned characteristics i mentioned early in your self, those of curiosity, freedom, will for living and a fearless desire to pass through dogmas and preconceptions made by history and culture. Of course as usual, this experience may be a thrill, and may shatter certain "realities" that may appear to be as solid as metal, resulting only being vapour in the big scheme of things, this may be perhaps scary at some point, but not as much as the rewards afterwards are quite compensatory.

"Lateralus" is a piece of Pithagorian math and Euclydean geometry and deals secretly with many hidden enigmas for the curious. The music is adhered to this principles and the lyrics with the melodies follows also the principles of musical composition (applied to modernity) of Aristotelian practice. Just keep an eye on the tempos, musical structure, instrumental allignment and rythm and you'll surely be bewildered. As for the lyrics they are simply outstanding, perfectly concatenated with the musical progression and thematic. Very intelligent music, nevertheless disguised with modern clothes. By the way, the artwork for each album is fantastic and well thought as well.
"10.000 days" goes further and places us in the utopia of some sort of Übermensch and its destiny as thematic while the music keeps a more pacific pace, nevertheless elaborated and with many intricacies.
I am very glad I was able to discover this band, I had to get pass through my doubts and dismission on modern rock and pop sensibilities but the final result was something quite impressive and definitive.
