February 19, 2021I thought I had heard some great music from U.K. by bands like Oasis and Blur. I like both of these bands very much, but after listening to a first pressing of Head Music, I realized that Suede was an entirely different band. I purchased this album from a local collector who was downsizing his collection of vinyl albums and he was the only owner. Every item I purchased from him was mint and I bought a bunch of Japanese pressings that he sold to me for $5.00 USD each. He was military and had recently married. They where being relocated to another state to a different military base and I guess his days as a carefree bachelor where over. He suggested I might like a Suede - Head Music pressing he had and I purchased it. I loved it so much I rushed back over to his house and purchased a first pressing of their self titled album as well. I played both of these albums for several days after I got them and I was completely addicted to this band. I had to go out and buy some other stuff by them. I was like they became my new drug and I needed to hear more of their music. I have to agree completely with fellow members “Cosmine” and “sorryitsnotJUDGE” on their reviews of this band. I can put on any of their albums and listen to the whole album without any complaints. Oasis and Blur are great bands, but this band is on a completely different level of musical genius and melodic pleasure. It’s like you’re just drifting through the whole sound and it’s mind boggling that the music is so incredible and they have a very original sound from any other band I’ve heard.
I recently purchased the white vinyl 6LP release of The Best Of Suede: Beautiful Ones 1992 - 2018 on vinyl and the CD Book with 4CDs. I generally try to buy both the vinyl copy and CD copy of most of the music I enjoy listening to. Both have the signed card and it’s the best purchase I have made in a long time. I ordered both of them from the U.K. and I am going to have one of the signed cards framed to go with the rest of my signed vinyl pressings and concert posters. The shop I use is going to be extremely surprised when I request that the matting be made of suede as it is the appropriate material to use for this item.
I was lucky enough to get to purchased their first box set that is numbered and came out in 2013. I paid about $140.00 USD total for this item and it was dropped shipped in a box that was probably one of the best packaged sets I have ever received. It’s so thick and has a double walled styrofoam lining in it and I kept it in case I move. The colored vinyl box set that came out a few years later seems to have had some issues with the pressings, but the numbered set is incredible and it is 180g vinyl pressings. It is missing a couple of their newer albums, but I have purchased those albums separately.
I can’t believe that it was somewhere around 2007 or 2008 before I discovered this band and it made me feel like there’s still hope for British Alternative music. Some refer to this as “Britpop” a term that doesn’t begin to describe the sound and genius lyrics of this band. Britpop sounds like The Spice Girls or some other unoriginal band. It’s nothing like most of the newer music that lacks that incredible melodic sound and basically sounds kind of just “blah” to me. This band completely changed my life and their music will be relevant to me and other fans of this band forever.
