Van Halen

Profile:
American rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1974.

They have enjoyed success since the release of their debut album Van Halen (1978). As of 2007, Van Halen has sold 80 million albums worldwide and have had the most number-one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. During the 1980s they also had more Billboard Hot 100 hits than any other hard rock or heavy metal band. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Van Halen is the 19th best-selling band/artist of all time with sales of over 56 million albums in the U.S. alone, and is one of five rock bands that have had two albums sell more than 10 million copies in the U.S. In 1999, the RIAA certified their debut album diamond for ten million in U.S. sales.

In addition to being recognized for success, the band is known for the drama surrounding the exits of former members. The multiple exits of both lead singers David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar were surrounded in controversy and mass press coverage with various contrasting press statements between the former singers and the band. Following their 2004 concert tour the band was on a hiatus from the public until September 2006, when new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen's place was confirmed and Roth reunion rumors began to re-surface coinciding with the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on March 12, 2007. After years of speculation, Van Halen began a tour with Roth in late 2007 across North America and continued into 2008. Wolfgang van Halen and David Lee Roth have since become permanent touring and recording members. Jan Van Halen is the father of Alex Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen and the grandfather of Wolfgang Van Halen.

Eddie Van Halen died on the 6th October 2020 at St. Johns Hospital, Santa Monica, California after a long battle with throat cancer.

Mark Stone (Born: * – Died: 26 September 2020) was an Original Van Halen bassist. Mark was a member of the fold from 1972 to 1974 when the band called themselves 'Genesis' and 'Mammoth', parting ways with the guys four years before the release of the group's self-titled debut.

Eddie has always been unlike anyone else - a phenomenal sound, unrealistic mastery of the guitar, sensuality and at the same time cruelty of performance, like a compressed spring. From the first album I heard (1991) I fell in love with him, with his group. 30 years have passed, and I still go crazy with their music, like a little boy. Rest in peace, King Edward! I love you ... I miss you ... Your image is always with me on my avatar, your music is always with me in my collection.

Thank you Eddie Van Halen for the awesome music and the memories. Growing up and to this day, I enjoy listening to Van Halen and always in awe of your guitar playing, a true magician with the guitar and one of the all-time best to ever play it.

Personally, I thought everything before the “1984” album was the best Van Halen music. You will be missed but we will always have the legacy you left behind to listen to and enjoy. "Happy Trials To You Until We Meet Again....."

R.I.P. Eddie... Yet another nail in the coffin(s) of 2020... I was always a much bigger fan of Van Halen with David Lee Roth but was still in awe of Eddie’s playing throughout the years. It never gets any easier whenever we lose one of these great musicians.Especially one as special and innovative as EVH.

RIP, Eddie van Halen today (Oct. 6, 2020)! Dead from cancer only 10 days from the orginal bass player Mark Stone died, also from cancer. I actually tired of Van Halen already after 4 albums in 1981 (after 'Van Halen - Fair Warning'), but saw you live in Stockholm in 1984...

Apart from Geoff Tate the most clever and multitalanted american singer ever, with quotes in millions just like Gene Simmons, DLR before "new VH" from 5150 and forward anyday but every member of the original lineup is a top 10 artist in his craft

Just like with KISS the reunion took a bit too long but better late than never, music with class is better than mediocre toplist chants in the 90s, then I prefered the albums with DLR/Steve Vai; VH with DLR is one of the most influential bands on earth (the first time produced by Gene Simmons, he got some VH demos to be released in the future)
