Woody Aplanalp is a Los Angeles based guitarist whose work has taken him across the globe. He has toured and recorded with an unusually diverse array of artists that include multiple grammy winning singer and rapper Lauryn Hill, soul legend and rock n roll hall of famer Bobby Womack, indian fusion master Trilok Gurtu, african legend the “lion of Zimbabwe” Thomas Mapfumo, creative composer and improviser Wadada Leo Smith, experimental guitar guru Nels Cline, violin wiz Lili Haydn, the jam-rock band Banyan featuring Stephen Perkins of Janes Addiction, Johnny Vatos Boingo Dance Party (featuring former members of Oingo Boingo) and many others. Lately he has taken on duties recording, touring, and musical directing for grammy nominated soul singer and hit songwriter Aloe Blacc. Known for his unique style, he draws from elements of classical, jazz, rock, experimental, and world music to form an original musical voice. He is also a member of the guitar faculty at the prestigious art and music school California Institute of the Arts.
