I know Buffalo, NY is a soul-crushingly depressiv frozen shithole with hotwing guido contingent and contiguous shiv-you-in-the-neck African American crack ghettoe
BUT
I cannot manage to excuse THIS saccharine, mealy, arbitrary, limp faux-psychedelia...this very "Indie" band, "Indie" no longer an abreviation for "Independent" as that would include most of the music released nowadays, but "Indie" as in the worst kind of white people songwriting in which campfire strummy strumming is tainted with anodyne trumpet enhancements and throw-everything-in-there fay worldbeat arrangement excesses, all in apparent furtherance of making sure no one's feelings are hurt and a barely-passable lyric is repeated ad nauseum.
When I think of FAKE FUCKING "INDIE"-TYPE "PSYCHEDELIA, i think of this band and how their appropriation of "Psychedelic" includes everything extraneous and nothing essential; pretty effects pedal nuances and fancy postproduction enhancements of meek, unrisky compositions come to mind.
To produce a cowardly bowl of coagulating music dip that makes the SMASHING PUMPKINS seem relatively cool in their radiating Chicagoan mediocrity, is the only achievement of this blob.
I can almost hear the source material they stole from for each consecutive single, each one remindin us that this band has NO SOUND OF ITS OWN, only attempts to invoke other successes, sometimes the glassy lap steel glissando of, say STARLAND VOCAL BAND, sometimes the dramatic snare-decay of Motown.
Yes, when Niel Young talk-sings like he does it sounds right, No, when this guy and his haircut thinly emotes like he, whimper, does, it does not.
